About Pan-oramic Fibre Arts

Pandora Hobby Pandora’s Fibres Artistic Biography-Fibres Pandora Hobby is a fibre artist living and working in Montreal, Quebec. She studied at the Dawson New School (1988-90) examining various art techniques then turned her talents to cultural studies (1992-99) and education (2002-Present) for the duration of her formal training. One day in the mid 80’s, Ms Hobby, then a high school student, had a daydream of her future while repairing a pair of her own worn out jeans. Ms. Hobby knew then that recycling clothes and modifying fibres/ unique textures would drive her work for the rest of her life. Years before, while living in British Columbia she had learned to weave, crochet and knit. By the age of 19 she was working on Montreal’s Mont-Royal avenue with its recycled clothing, ‘friperie’ boutiques as a raccomoder/ finisher. After the birth of the artist’s first child she turned to the medium of fibre as art and hasn’t looked back. Her crocheted works vary between artistic and artisanal. Craft shows and workshops include Puces Pop, kid pop, the Rusty Plum/Madam Coeur, La Lumiere café workshop series, Geek out, Montreal Homelearners, & classes at Ariadne Knits. Her crochet classes revolve around free-form and recycled art themes and she has expanded into work-shopping felt techniques in collaboration with FiberAlley. Since 2009 Ms. Hobby has concentrated on workshopping and writing through Feltunited (2009-present), Old skool craft (2010-present), Expozine (2010) and her blog https://artattackz.wordpress.com. Her first essay/zine on creative process hooked in was released 2010. Spring 2011 brought a fascination with public art and yarnbombing and Ms. Hobby later spoke on this subject at the Greasygoose symposium entitled scraps.
